Common Situations and Rule violations:
Common FIVB Beach Volleyball Rules will be enforced.
Rules will be covered before each Tournament

No Hand Setting Over the Net

If you are hand setting the ball and it goes over the net without you hitting it. That is the other team’s point. It does not matter whether it was the wind or if there is no spin.

No Touching the Net During Play

If you touch the net while the ball is in play, it doesn’t matter which side of the court the ball is on at the time. It is the opponent’s point. The only exception is when the net is knocked into you.

No Jumping to Attack the Serve

If you are at the net and you jump to intercept and return the serve. That is illegal and will give the other team a point. Do not jump and attack the serve.

No Arguing Over What is Legal

Since there are different levels of players in this tournament, we are not enforcing the rules as strictly in pool play. It is up to the teammates of a player or the player themselves to call a bad play. You cannot call the other team. This is to prevent arguments over the rules. Please call yourself or your teammate if you do something illegal.

Try Not to Carry, Double or Lift

When a ball sticks to your hand and you do not hear a smacking noise when it leaves it. You likely carried the ball. When the Ball rolls on your body or hand it is a carry. When the ball hits you twice, it is a double. When the ball starts at your waist and doesn’t leave your hand until you reach your chest you most likely lifted the ball. These are all illegal moves. The only exception to a double is when a ball is hard driven.

Blocks Do Not Count as a Touch

Each team is allowed three touches to get the ball over the net. However, when someone attempts to block the ball, it does not count as a touch. After the block touches the ball, you can still use three moves to get it back over the net. (Assuming the block failed)

Not Sure if it Was Legal? Replay it

If there is a questionable play and you are not sure if it was legal or not. Don’t argue about it or discuss it. Replay the point and continue playing the game. We are limited on time and as such we should keep the playing moving as quickly as possible.

Finals Will Be Stricter

The finals will have a referee. If you make it to the finals and you have been ignoring any of the rules above or not calling yourself. Then don’t be surprised if you get called on it in the finals. Do not argue with the referee saying “But I have been doing it this way all day.” We expect clean play in the finals.

Have Fun

The main objective of this Blind Draw is to play volleyball and to have fun. Please do you best to get out there and enjoy yourself. Bring a positive attitude and be a good sport whether you win or you lose. Please do not be a bad sport or sore loser no matter how bad a day that you are having as there are others that are trying to have fun as well.
